WE CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST, WHO STRENGTHENS US.

Conditions We Treat

At Precision Sports Physical Therapy, outpatient orthopedic physical therapy and sports rehabilitation is focused on one main goal: helping you move better, feel better, and get back to the activities you love. Whether you are recovering from surgery, managing a long-term joint issue, or trying to return to sport after an injury, you work with a highly trained team that understands both rehabilitation and performance.

Post-Surgical Rehab (Joint Replacement, ACL, Rotator Cuff, etc.)

If you have had orthopedic surgery, such as a total or partial knee or hip replacement, ACL reconstruction, meniscus or labral repair, or rotator cuff surgery, your therapist will design a structured program to address pain, swelling, stiffness, strength, balance, and gait.

Sports Injuries (Sprains, Strains, Overuse Injuries)

Sports injuries are common, whether you are a youth athlete, weekend warrior, or competitor. Ankle sprains, muscle strains, shin pain, tendinitis, and overuse injuries of the knee, shoulder, hip, or elbow are all managed with a blend of healing principles and performance needs.

Degenerative Conditions (Arthritis, Tendinopathy)

Patients with osteoarthritis, chronic tendinopathy, and other degenerative conditions benefit from programs that reduce pain and stiffness while increasing joint motion and muscular support.

Neuromuscular / Movement Disorders (Balance, Coordination)

When illness, neurological changes, or general deconditioning affect balance, coordination, or confidence with walking, your therapist performs a careful assessment of strength, posture, gait, and movement patterns.

Work-Related Injuries and Functional Capacity Evaluations

For work-related injuries, therapists address pain, mobility, strength, and the specific physical demands of your job. Care is directed toward a safe and sustainable return to work.

The clinic also offers Functional Capacity Evaluations to measure a worker’s ability to perform job-related tasks.

Success Stories & Patient Outcomes

Orthopedic physical therapist guiding patient through shoulder rehabilitation exercises

KEVIN ENGELGRECHT

Owner D1 Waco

I have had extensive therapy over the past 15+ years. I have had 2 spinal fusions, 3 knee surgeries and multiple issues with shoulder, lower back and hip.

My business affords me relationships and partnerships with some of the top orthopedics and physical therapists in the country. My first choice each time would be Eric! His knowledge, competence and ability to explain the relevance and application of both the why and the what have helped me tremendously.

Eric has a strong work ethic that compliments a very strong connection to people. He has a heart that is compassionate and caring with a unique ability to help others discover and engage the best that is within themselves. He lives life to the fullest and encourages others through a helpful and willing spirit of service.

I recommend and support Eric Steinke with great enthusiasm and without any reservations.

CAROLINE R

In other rehab experiences, I have felt that I’ve been given the same treatment that someone three or four times my age would be. Eric, however, creates a plan unique to my personal goals as a young, athletic woman. When I started seeing Eric, I saw immediate improvements with my ankle injury. He is an incredibly knowledgeable and seasoned therapist and I highly recommend Eric as a therapist.

ESSY B

Training with Eric was definitely a game changer! After seeing two other physical therapists before him with no progress, Eric was able to determine what my issue was and train me so that I could not only feel better, but also perform better as an athlete!

Elizabeth P

As a former collegiate basketball and soccer player, I had the privilege of working with Eric seven months post-op for an ACL repair (patellar graft), MCL tear, and medial meniscectomy. Eric quickly identified my weaknesses and imbalances and created a personalized rehab plan that strengthened by body and gave me mental confidence. Eric not only cared for my body, but also my mind and heart. Eric provided clear instructions, coached with patience, and pushed me to be my best, healthiest self.

After working with Eric, I was stronger and in better physical condition than prior to my injury. I have worked with many different athletic trainers and physical therapists, and I can say with no hesitation that Eric is one of the most excellent physical therapists and human beings I have had the privilege of knowing.

Jaxon B

Being a former college athlete, I have had my fair share of dealings with Physical Therapists and recovery. Eric has helped me recover from dislocated ribs and sciatica nerve pain. Eric is by far the most intentional and knowledgeable therapist that I have known, and I am thankful to call him my friend!

KELLY

I sought out Eric as my physical therapist following a complete ACL tear and subsequent reconstruction surgery because of his reputation for being especially skilled in the sports therapy field. I knew Eric would be committed to getting me back to my pre-injury level of athletic performance as quickly and as safely as possible. In addition to his expertise, Eric is personable and pleasant to work with. I looked forward to my bi-weekly sessions because I knew I would be pushed and challenged to work hard, while being encouraged in a way that motivated me.

Why Outpatient Orthopedic Physical Therapy Works

Sports injury rehab session focusing on athlete’s lower back pain treatment

Benefits of Outpatient vs Inpatient Rehab

Inpatient rehabilitation is vital for people who need 24-hour nursing and close medical monitoring. For many orthopedic and sports-related conditions, however, outpatient rehabilitation provides the right level of care with far less disruption to everyday life.

Cost Effectiveness & Patient Independence

Because outpatient rehab does not involve overnight stays, it is generally more cost-effective than inpatient care when inpatient services are not medically necessary. It also encourages independence, since you practice moving, problem-solving, and managing your condition at home and in your community rather than in a hospital unit.

Research / Evidence on Outcomes (E.g., Reduced Readmission, Better Recovery)

Studies in orthopedic rehab show that, for many joint and sports-related conditions, well-structured outpatient physical therapy can provide strong improvements in pain, function, and quality of life, often with lower overall cost and without increased complications when chosen appropriately.

Our Treatment Process

Initial Assessment: Subjective & Objective Examination

Your first session begins with a thorough conversation, known as the subjective examination. Your therapist asks when your pain started, how it behaves during the day, what makes it worse or better, what your daily activities look like, and what your goals are.

This is followed by an objective examination that may include joint range-of-motion testing, muscle strength testing, postural assessment, gait analysis, and movement tests.

Personalized Treatment Planning

Once the evaluation is complete, your therapist explains the findings and outlines a plan that matches your condition, schedule, and goals. If you have had surgery, the plan is coordinated with your surgeon’s protocol and recommendations.

Manual Therapy & Joint Mobilization

When appropriate, your plan may include hands-on techniques to reduce pain and stiffness and improve joint and soft-tissue mobility. This can involve joint mobilizations, gentle stretching, soft-tissue techniques, and other manual methods designed to restore movement.

Therapeutic Exercise & Strength Training

Exercise is at the core of your rehabilitation. Early sessions may focus on gentle activation, mobility, and basic control. As you progress, exercises are advanced to build strength, power, endurance, and stability in the muscles that support your joints and spine.

Functional Movement Training & Conditioning

As your pain decreases and strength improves, therapy begins to mirror the real activities you care about. Sessions may include movement patterns such as squatting, lunging, lifting, pushing, pulling, reaching, jumping, and changing direction, depending on your needs and goals.

Home Exercise Program & Patient Education

Each patient receives a home exercise program designed for their specific needs, their available equipment, and their schedule. Your therapist demonstrates each movement, coaches your technique, and explains how often and how hard to perform the exercises.

Do I need a doctor’s referral to start outpatient physical therapy?

In Texas, some insurance plans and state rules still require a physician referral before starting physical therapy. Our front office can review your benefits and let you know whether you need a referral for your specific plan.

How long will my therapy program last?

Many patients attend therapy two to three times per week for several weeks, but your exact plan depends on your condition, goals, and progress. Your therapist will revisit your goals regularly and adjust the length of care as you improve.

What should I wear to my appointments?

Wear comfortable clothing and athletic shoes that let you move freely and allow easy access to the area being treated. For example, shorts are best for knee and ankle issues, while loose tops or tank tops work well for shoulder and neck conditions.

Will my treatment be painful?

Some exercises and manual techniques may feel challenging or mildly uncomfortable, but you should not feel sharp, severe, or worsening pain. We will always explain what to expect, adjust activities if needed, and work within a level that is safe for your body.

How soon will I see results?

Many patients notice early improvements in pain or mobility within the first few visits, especially once swelling and stiffness begin to decrease. More complex or long-standing conditions can take longer, but your therapist will track your progress and explain what kind of changes you should see over time.
