Conditions & Injuries We Treat
Acute Sports Injuries (Sprains, Strains, Fractures)
We treat ankle sprains, muscle strains, joint sprains, and stable fractures from the first days after injury through full return to sport. Early care focuses on protecting healing tissue while restoring safe motion and strength.
Overuse / Chronic Injuries (Tendinopathy, Stress Injuries)
We address runner’s knee, tendinopathies, stress injuries, and training related pain by managing load, improving mechanics, and building tissue capacity so you can handle your sport volume.
Post-Surgical Rehabilitation (ACL, Labrum, Tendon Repair)
Post surgical programs for ACL, meniscus, labrum, shoulder, and tendon repairs are structured around healing timelines and objective milestones. We aim for strong, symmetrical, and confident return to cutting, jumping, and high level play.
Concussion & Vestibular Rehabilitation
For concussion and head related symptoms, we provide vestibular rehab, balance training, graded exertion, and neck care. Our goal is a safe, stepwise return to school, work, and sport.
Biomechanical & Movement Dysfunction (Movement Screening)
Movement screening helps us find underlying issues like poor control, asymmetry, or limited mobility that lead to repeated injuries. Corrective exercise and coaching then change how you move, not just how you feel.
Our Treatment Approach
Initial Evaluation – Assessment & Movement Screen
Your first visit includes a detailed history, joint and muscle testing, and sport specific movement screening. We explain the findings in clear language and outline a plan that fits your goals.
Manual Therapy & Hands-On Techniques
When needed, we use joint mobilization, soft tissue work, and manual stretching to reduce pain and restore motion. Hands on care is always paired with exercise so gains hold up in real life.
Therapeutic Exercise & Strength Training
Progressive strengthening is the backbone of your plan. We target weak links, build symmetry, and use the right volume and intensity for your phase of rehab and sport.
Functional Training & Sport-Specific Drills
As you improve, exercises shift toward running, cutting, landing, lifting, or skill based movements that mirror your sport. We add speed and complexity gradually so you can perform under pressure.
Return-to-Sport Protocols & Criteria
Return decisions are based on strength tests, hop tests, movement quality, and tolerance to sport drills, not just time since injury. We work closely with physicians, coaches, and trainers when needed.
Home Program & Injury Prevention Education
You receive a clear home program that fits around school, work, and practice. We also teach warm ups, cool downs, and recovery habits to prevent the same problem from returning.
Success Stories & Patient Outcomes

KEVIN ENGELGRECHT
Owner D1 Waco
I have had extensive therapy over the past 15+ years. I have had 2 spinal fusions, 3 knee surgeries and multiple issues with shoulder, lower back and hip.
My business affords me relationships and partnerships with some of the top orthopedics and physical therapists in the country. My first choice each time would be Eric! His knowledge, competence and ability to explain the relevance and application of both the why and the what have helped me tremendously.
Eric has a strong work ethic that compliments a very strong connection to people. He has a heart that is compassionate and caring with a unique ability to help others discover and engage the best that is within themselves. He lives life to the fullest and encourages others through a helpful and willing spirit of service.
I recommend and support Eric Steinke with great enthusiasm and without any reservations.

CAROLINE R
In other rehab experiences, I have felt that I’ve been given the same treatment that someone three or four times my age would be. Eric, however, creates a plan unique to my personal goals as a young, athletic woman. When I started seeing Eric, I saw immediate improvements with my ankle injury. He is an incredibly knowledgeable and seasoned therapist and I highly recommend Eric as a therapist.

ESSY B
Training with Eric was definitely a game changer! After seeing two other physical therapists before him with no progress, Eric was able to determine what my issue was and train me so that I could not only feel better, but also perform better as an athlete!

Elizabeth P
As a former collegiate basketball and soccer player, I had the privilege of working with Eric seven months post-op for an ACL repair (patellar graft), MCL tear, and medial meniscectomy. Eric quickly identified my weaknesses and imbalances and created a personalized rehab plan that strengthened by body and gave me mental confidence. Eric not only cared for my body, but also my mind and heart. Eric provided clear instructions, coached with patience, and pushed me to be my best, healthiest self.
After working with Eric, I was stronger and in better physical condition than prior to my injury. I have worked with many different athletic trainers and physical therapists, and I can say with no hesitation that Eric is one of the most excellent physical therapists and human beings I have had the privilege of knowing.

Jaxon B
Being a former college athlete, I have had my fair share of dealings with Physical Therapists and recovery. Eric has helped me recover from dislocated ribs and sciatica nerve pain. Eric is by far the most intentional and knowledgeable therapist that I have known, and I am thankful to call him my friend!

KELLY
I sought out Eric as my physical therapist following a complete ACL tear and subsequent reconstruction surgery because of his reputation for being especially skilled in the sports therapy field. I knew Eric would be committed to getting me back to my pre-injury level of athletic performance as quickly and as safely as possible. In addition to his expertise, Eric is personable and pleasant to work with. I looked forward to my bi-weekly sessions because I knew I would be pushed and challenged to work hard, while being encouraged in a way that motivated me.

Return to Sport — Our Roadmap
Phase 1: Baseline Rehabilitation
We reduce pain and swelling, protect healing tissues, and restore gentle motion. You learn safe ways to sit, stand, walk, and move in daily life.
Phase 2: Strengthening & Conditioning
We build strength, endurance, and control in the injured area and the whole body. Training volume and resistance increase as your tolerance improves.
Phase 3: Functional Movement & Agility
You progress to multi directional drills, deceleration, and change of direction. We clean up mechanics so your movement is efficient and safe at higher speeds.
Phase 4: Sport-Specific Drills & Return Testing
You perform drills that closely match your sport, under fatigue and game like conditions. Objective tests help confirm that you are ready to compete.
Return Clearance & Maintenance Plan
Once you meet criteria, we outline a gradual return plan and ongoing maintenance routine. Occasional check ins help you stay ahead of small problems.
Why Sports Injury Physical Therapy Matters
Performance Optimization + Injury Mitigation
Sports injury physical therapy helps you move efficiently, produce more power, and reduce avoidable injury risk. The focus is performance and protection, not just pain relief.

Biomechanical screening, structured sports therapy and rehabilitation, and return to sport testing are backed by growing research. They help guide better decisions and clearer progress.
Long-Term Athlete Health & Career Longevity
By improving mechanics, strength, and recovery habits, sports PT supports not only this season but many seasons ahead. Our goal is a lifetime of healthy movement.

Research / Continuing Education
Mention ongoing courses, certifications, and clinical interests such as running analysis, concussion care, or foot and ankle rehab to reinforce your commitment to staying current.
Do I need a referral to start sports physical therapy?
Requirements vary by state and insurance. In many cases you will need a referral from a physician, especially after surgery, but our front office can explain what applies to you.
How soon after an injury should I start PT?
In most cases it is best to be evaluated as early as possible. Early guidance helps protect healing tissue, control swelling, and prevent bad movement habits from forming.
How long will it take to return to my sport?
Time frames depend on the type and severity of your injury, your sport, and your goals. Simple sprains may improve in weeks, while post surgical sports therapy and rehabilitation can take several months or longer.
What should I wear and bring to my first visit?
Wear comfortable athletic clothing and shoes so you can move freely. Bring imaging reports, surgery notes if you have them, and a list of medications or medical conditions.
Can you work with my coach or athletic trainer?
Yes. With your permission we are happy to communicate with your coach, trainer, or team medical staff so your sports rehab physical therapy plan and training plan work together, not against each other.
